The Literacy Leaders of Create and Educate

Updated: Sep 26, 2020

Why is Literacy Important?

According to the Library Journal, 781 million people world-wide are either illiterate (cannot read a single word) or functionally literate (possess basic or below basic abilities in reading). About 126 million of the massive number above are young people that account for 12% of the world's population. In the United States, 21% of adults (43 million people) fall into the illiterate category.

Literacy impacts health, employment, poverty levels, generational literacy and crime rates. So many of the worlds problems could be solved through addressing literacy in our country and around the world. This is where Create and Educate's, Literacy Leaders, Sheka Houston and Tammy Taylor come in. They are dedicated educators committed to this work and improving the literacy rate in thier schools, community, state, nation and world. Join them each Tuesday on Facebook Live at 7:30 pm to hear what you can do to help your students (teachers, program directors, and leaders), your children (parents), or possibly yourself. We can help everyone improve their abilities in literacy. Join us at https://www.facebook.com/createandeducatesolutions/ each week. Our segment is 15 minutes and is followed by our partner, The Unicorn Teacher, for story time.
